Downhill All the Way

Recommended
This book by Edward Enfield is a very nice story about an elderly person (but very young as afar as his behaviour and propably feelings are concerned) who travelled the whole France. He didn't use train, coach or even a thumbing. He cycled the whole way. It's called "Downhill all the way" as it's about a way from Havre to the south, so from Uppland to the coast. It can be also called "Downhill..." as it's the same pleasure to read it as to cycle downhill, without any exhoustion and with a lot of satisfuction. It's also good for people trying to do the same way themself, as it's a kind of guide book. And for all people at "old" age but feeling young, as it shows them how they can made their "automn of life" more interesting then any other parts of it. If you want to try to read Enfield you can find his esseys on ...

Downhill All the Way: Bicycling Across France
Published in Paperback by Thomas t Beeler (December, 1997)

Anyone can ride in France!!
Having taken two "credit card" (guided, with sag wagon) bicycle tours in France (Loire and Provence), I try to read everything I can find on the subject, against the day when I and my wife will forge our own way, probably inn to inn vs. camping. The question is, how long would a long ride take and by when must we do this, if ever (we at age 55 now.

Edward Enfield took a trip upon retirement, riding from his home not far from London to the Mediterrian near the mouth of the Rhone River. He camped except for a night or two. We would not. He rode a 6 speed..we would ride better bikes. He prepared some, but not to excess. His touring experince was a several day ride with his wife and some riding near home.

He did wonderfully, and this is a pleasant read. I would like to meet him. I wonder, did he take another ride? Does he still ride at all? Does he manage to hear from many seeking advice?

I'll never know, but this book inspires anyone thinking of such a trip. Camp a little, stay in inns, perhaps send some clothes ahead to several places, and throw away some clothes, keep the weight down, etc. All of this is possible, and Enfield shows the way.

Not a begginers book
I purchased this book from Amozon, attempted to read the first 3 chapters and returned it all within 24 hours. The writting is very unclear and I had a hard time following the topics. It was difficult to tell what they wanted us to try and what they were they were trying to explain. Maybey somebody with a few more years of experience in Visual Basic may have found this book usefull, but if you are new to VB, I strongly recomend against it.

Not all that good
This book is a bit too convoluted and indirect about the things it must cover in order to make you an effective VB5 ActiveX programmer. I've seen it done much more efficiently. I got two thirds of the way through it and had to lay it down.

The Lee Enfield Number Four Rifles
Published in Paperback by Excalibur Publications (February, 1992)
Author: Alan M. Petrillo

Disapointed
This book really is a basic introduction to Lee Enfield rifles. After ordering books from Charles R Stratton and Ian Skennerton I found Alan Petrillo's book lacking in detail. I was able to learn more about the Lee Enfield rifle by surfing the web while I was waiting for this book to arrive. My suggestion is don't waste your money on this book.

Handy book if you need to identify what your Enfield is.
This book helped me to identify my gun, and understand a lot more about it. It is a pleasure to read and gives lots of details. The book covers all No 4 models, including the sniper.

Tha last part of the book is a reprint of the sniper manual. A good book for a good gun.
